Cyclone Isla Path. Communities in the path of Tropical Cyclone Ilsa are beginning to assess the damage from its potentially record-breaking winds as the severe storm system works its way inland. It's expected to hit east of Port Hedland in the early hours of Friday morning.

The tropical cyclone nearing Australia is. A once-in-a-decade tropical cyclone meandering off the Kimberley coast is predicted to intensify and become a severe tropical cyclone before the end of the day, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. But as Ilsa moves inland over the weekend and deteriorates into a tropical low, heavy rain and/or strong winds could make it all the way to western Queensland.
